SUMMARY |
| Worthy of the Calling |
Anderson, Clifford V. |
the layman's vital role |
| Passion for Jesus |
Bickle, Mike |
Although there are enough reviews to indicate this
book is worth studying, I have to say how much it
impacted me. Bickle writes in a conversational style so
I figured it would be a quick & easy read. Not so.
There's enough strong meat in Passion For Jesus to have
kept me at a pace of about half a chapter at a time. Be
sure to have your Bible handy.
The chapters on the Song of Songs are by far the best
and most satisfying teaching on of this mysterious Bible
book I've ever come across. The chapter on Beholding The
Glory Dimly alone is worth the price of the book, as
another reviewer has noted. While reading it I felt like
I was treading on holy ground. Unanointed prayer is not
discouraged but seen as a small step in being changed
from glory to glory. The advice to gaze on the throne of
God as an eternal reality (Revelation 4) while praying
is gold. We may not have crowns to cast yet, but we can
cast him our hearts.
Mike Bickle is an encourager, and a breath of fresh air!
For years, I neglected getting this book because I
misunderstood his restorationist views. Regardless, they
rarely enter into the picture apart from the fact that
if he wasn't postmillenial, he might not have the
pastoral heart to encourage people to further glean into
the godhead and grow into the knowledge of our Lord
Jesus. A.W. Tozer would be proud!

| The Cost of Discipleship |
Bonhoeffer, Dietrich |
Bonhoeffer has always been an appropriate challenge
and reminder to the Western church about the incredible
value of the grace of God, and how that ought to
radically transform our mindset.
This book is hard to ignore. It will either elicit
cheers and statements like, "THAT'S what I've been
trying to say, but I couldn't put words to it!" or it
will put you on your behind, and force you to come to
terms with your weak faith, or both and more.
For me, it was the latter. He articulated several things
I had been pondering on my own, and he also challenged
me to take the next steps in making my life one
submitted to Christ more fully. there were times when my
inadequacies were very clearly pointed out, and he was
always good to remind of where our hope lies - not in
our own ability to make ourselves better people, but in
the grace of God transforming our lives for His glory.
On a more personal note, I do disagree with some of his
interpretations of various passages on the Sermon on the
Mount, but I do appreciate the consistency he was trying
to achieve in reading the passage as a whole.
The challenge of Bonhoeffer's life for all of
Christianity is one that may remain a mystery forever -
how does one so committed to pacifism and non-violence
(as is clear in this book) end up in a plot to
assassinate Hitler? What caused him to change his mind?
Was that the right thing to do? Why or why not?

| In His Image |
Brand, P. & Yancey P. |
In Fearfully & Wonderfully Made, Philip Yancey and
Dr. Paul Brand revealed how God’s voice is encoded in
the very structure of our bodies. In His Image takes up
where its predecessor left off, beckoning us once again
inward and onward to fresh exploration and discovery.
Yancey and Brand show how accurately and intricately the
human body portrays the Body of Christ. In five
sections—Image, Blood, Head, Spirit, and Pain—the
acclaimed surgeon and the award-winning writer unlock
the remarkable, living lessons contained in our physical
makeup. This Gold Medallion Award-winning book will open
your eyes to the complex miracle of the human body, and
the even more compelling spiritual truths that it
reflects.

| The Pursuit of Holiness |
Bridges, Jerry |
Holiness: The nearly forgotten word of Christianity.
If it was happiness, joy, love, grace, or mercy the
modern church would be very familiar with it, but
holiness is a word foreign to many professing
Christians. Jerry Bridges has done an outstanding job in
awakening Christians to the fact that God has a
responsiblity in sanctifying us, and we as the children
of God have a major role in our own pursuit of holiness.
Jerry Bridges shows you as plain as day from the Word of
God that Christ saves people from not only the penalty
of sin (hell) but also from the power of sin. So many
Christians sit in the church pew thinking how wonderful
it will be to go to Heaven, yet their daily life is full
of bondage to things that Christ has given them the
power to overcome. The Christian life is not just
victory over hell through Christ, but also over the
sinful habits, addictions, and attitudes that we were
enslaved to us sinners. Let Jerry Bridges turn your
attention to what God's Word already states plainly. We
have God's mercy to forgive us of sin, but we also have
God's grace to empower us to live like Jesus did.

This book is a fine incursion into one's belief

from reading. Easy to read, and not too long either. |
| Seven Deadly sins |
Campolo, Anthony |
In his usual style of challenging thought Tony
Campolo takes on the seven deadly sins and relates them
to modern, western culture. Today it seems as though
very few people are willing to openly talk about sin and
call it what it is ... SIN. That is what Campolo does.
He covers the sins by giving broad and specific examples
of them, helping you to understand how you might
actually struggle with these sins, and then helps you to
develop a strategy to overcome these sins through the
grace of Christ. I don't want to call it refreshing to
be convicted over my own pride or gluttony, but it was
very different from much of the other Christian writing
out there that seems to focus on "self-help" instead of
repentance. Campolo does an excellent job of continuing
to point to our (and his own) short comings and then
pointing to the unmerited favor of our loving God.
|
| How to be Pentecostal Without Speaking in Tongues |
Campolo, Tony |
"Everywhere I go", states bestselling author Tony
Campolo, "I encounter Christians who believe all the
right things, but lack the vital aliveness that can come
through total surrender to the ministry of the Holy
Spirit". Tony's stirring message and moving stories help
all Christians become more aware of the Holy Spirit's
desire to lead and strengthen them.

| The Kingdom of God is a Party |
Campolo, tony |
Some religious folks are so serious, humorless,
uptight, and narrow-minded. It doesn't have to be that
way. The wonderful quality of this book is that it makes
God and faith exciting! In an inspiring, informative,
and Biblically sound way, the author shows how living
the Word of God can and should be a joyous and
spiritually rejuvinating and uplifting (and FUN!) thing
and that many of us believers need to re-capture that
same spirit and verve. It shows how doing good, living
through positivity and love, and leading the lonely, the
oppressed, etc to their loving Heavenly Father can be a
deeply enriching experience both personally and
spiritually. |
| Finish Strong |
Capen, Richard Jr. |
Strong leaders from all walks of life answered
Ambassador Richard Capen's questios about what they
would like to be remembered for after their lives are
through. It brings home the fact that people who do
great things in this world don't walk through it
alone...and don't want to.
Military and political leaders, neighborhood activists
and heads of industry discuss values, mentors, life
learnings, and what is most important to them. Family,
Faith, and Commitment are the primary topics, along with
precious personal glimpses of often public lives.
Ambassador Capen shares many insights from his own life
and family, in a warm, conversational style. This book
is an inspirational read, and a great gift!

| Inside Out |
Crabb, Larry |
You don't have to pretend you've got it all together
. . . when you don't. You don't have to pretend your
best relationship deeply satisfies . . . when it
doesn't. You don't have to pretend your struggle with
sin is a thing of the past . . . when it isn't.
"Only Christians have the capacity to never pretend,"
says Larry Crabb. That's because real change is only
possible when you face the realities of your internal
life and let God mold you into a person who is free to
be honest, courageous, and loving.
If you want a more vital union with God, a richer
relationship with others, and a deeper sense of personal
wholeness, let Larry Crabb help you look inside
yourself. And discover how God works real, liberating
change when you live from the inside out.
This expanded anniversary edition includes a new preface
and new chapter from the author and celebrates more than
400,000 copies of Inside Out in print.

| Living in the World |

| The Disciplines of Life |
Edman, V. Raymond |
|
| The Liberty Of Obedience |
Elliot, Elisabeth |
The book impacted me in the following way: checking
my motives as a Christian and challenging me to live to
please and be motivated by God. It contained biblical
insight into some difficult issues as to what it means
to be a Christian. It is very short, but definitely
worth the read.
|
| The Path of Loneliness |
Elliot, Elisabeth |
Speaking honestly from a sensitive as well as
sympathetic heart, Elisabeth Elliot candidly offers her
reader a Light at the end of their tunnel. She touches
on every circumstance in life that brings us to
loneliness and then points us directly to the One who
can ultimately and completely fill that void. I love
especially the way she brings in her own struggles and
experiences. This book reads quickly and is suitable for
anyone who may struggle with loneliness. It gave me hope
and a renewed confirmation in God's presence and how He
works everything, even the bad things, in life for good.

| Life's Ultimate Privilege |
Fromke, DeVern |
Perfect for new Christians and for those who
struggle with their daily quiet times. The ideas are
comparable to those in "Experiencing God," but in a
simpler format (only 15 days). Rich, rich, rich truths
about the Lord and His ways. Very user friendly, and
simple enough for new Christians, but also deep enough
for those who've been walking with Him for years!
|
| The Ultimate Intention |
Fromke, DeVern F. |
This book rates as one of the greatest spiritual
truths God has revealed in my life. The first was
salvation. The second, was understanding spiritual
warfare. The third, has to be this book topic...
understanding God's ultimate purpose for my life. This
book's truth, if you allow the Holy Spirit to do so,
will revolutionize your life. I highly recommend it as
it speaks greatly of the working of the cross in us and
the resurected life that comes as a result. |
| Unto Full Stature |
Fromke, DeVern F. |
This volume is the panoramic unfolding of God's
ultimate intention for Himself as seen from eternity to
eternity. While it demonstrates the imperative necessity
of seeing all things in god's eternal viewpoint, it also
exposes man's usual selfish attempt to move God into his
world to help solve his predicaments in s;pite of how or
whether they fit into the eternal purpose. The reader is
invited to look at the various aspects of God's
intention and to see them properly related and
integrated into the whole |

Grubb, Norman |
There are many today who are not satisfied with
their Christian experience. Some go through constant
self-condemnation. Life's problems defeat them, and
fears obsess them. They are not inwardly free, and
therefore cannot livingly recommend christ to others.l
This book sets forth the secrets of a life that is both
blessed and a blessing.
Reviewer: Tom Davis - THIS IS A MUST READ BOOK!! This
book will blow your mind. If you think you know who God
is now - expect some very astounding visions of who God
really is. For example: "there is really only One Person
in the universe, and that is God Himself"; "Life is just
GOD, Not God first, but God only"; "It is impossible for
any created being, of this world or any other, including
the devil and his angels, to be out of God";Human
Beings, created as persons in His image, only exist to
contain and manifest Him as The Person; " |
| Faith is Stranger than Fiction |
Halladay, Steve |
You think God must work in a certain way, but out of
left field He springs an eye-popping surprise. You pray
for guidance in a ticklish situation, and God responds
with a plan that takes your breath away. You're
confident you know whom God will use to do His
will...and He chooses someone so unlikely that even that
person is left speechless. What's going on here? What
gives? Actually, it's really quite simple: Faith Is
Stranger Than Fiction.
When you serve a God who loves surprises, there's no
telling what He may cook up next to thrill your soul and
challenge your spirit. Only one thing is certain: He
will fulfill all His promises...but He'll do it in a way
none of us could imagine in a billion lifetimes!

| Worship His Majesty |
Hayford, Jack W. |
The Father certainly doesn't need our praise, yet He
prescribes worship as a daily activity. Why? Pastor Jack
Hayford shows that God graces His people with worship as
a gift, not a demand. Worship liberates God's people to
discover genuine wholeness only as they recognize and
acknowledge the holiness of God. In this classic work,
Hayford examines the lives of more than a dozen biblical
figures to describe the fulfilling effects of worship,
including seven truths Jesus revealed about the
blessings of praise. God's grace fills everything He
gives and calls us to do, and this grace overflows in a
special way on those who humbly and wholeheartedly
worship God.

| Full Assurance |
Ironside, H. A. |
Reviewer: Vincent J Webb (Santa Ana, CA USA)
H.A. Ironside has a wonderful way of making things so
simple, after all why should it be a great mystery
concerning our "Full Assurance" Chapter by chapter you
will catch yourself saying things such as "Now I get it"
or "Boy, what a relief" and of course "THANK YOU JESUS!"
The last section answers some common questions people
have asked Dr. Ironside through out his ministry and you
just might find one in there that has been on your mind
too. This little book is so enlightening I've read it
about three times myself, used the illustrations in my
own teachings and honestly have given about thirty
copies to friends and family. The late Harry Ironside
may not preach any new sermons but I'm sure that this
classic will revive your soul so that you will say of
your own assurance "I am sure!" |

| The Discipline of Grace |
Jerry Bridges |
Consistent with his other text I have read (Pursuit
of Holiness, etc.), Jerry Bridges brings a good and
balanced biblical view to his writing. While he clearly
states he does not wish judge anyone in his writing,
Bridges also clearly challenges the reader to not take
God's grace so lightly since it cost Him so much -
namely His Son Jesus Christ.
The first part of the book is spent clarifying what
grace is and what our part is in growing more in God's
grace. The second part mainly concerns how we can
actually grow. Whether a new or mature believer, you
will benefit from the reading.
The last few chapters are spent discussing how God will
mature us through: commitment, convictions, choices,
watching, and adversity. Included in these chapters are
how we can experience spiritual growth when we obey
God's leading and determine to apply these truths. In
short, Bridges throughout the book maintains a balance
between God's grace and what we have to do to experience
that grace and growth.

| A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 |
Keller, Phillip |
Walk the green pastures of faith and drink from the
still waters of peace hidden in Psalm 23! Drawing from
his experience as a professional sheep rancher, Keller
leads you verse by verse through this beloved portion of
Scripture, offering unique insights into the love our
Good Shepherd bestows upon us, the sheep of his pasture. |
| Lessons From a Sheepdog |
Keller, Phillip |
What you see is not always what you get - and this
true story of a man and his dog is no exception. Woven
just under the surface of this simple parable, Keller
presents profound spiritual truth. It is the story of
Lass, a worthless animal thought to be untrainable, who
becomes a magnificent and valuable sheepdog - not
terribly unlike how God's love can transform our worst
characteristics into blessings that serve to further His
Kingdom. Allow yourself to see Biblical truth in this
classic tale of what can happen when you yield to the
Master.

| Getting Ahead by Staying Behind |
Knamp, John |
How to Be a Better Follower of Jesus |
| Making Sense Out of Suffering |
Kreeft, Peter |
This is a fanatastic book on suffering and the
"problem of Evil". Along with "Disapointment with God"
by Phil Yancey, this is in my list of top books on the
subject. Kreeft is a very intelligent person, and he
takes on the issue from both a philosophical and
religous angle. He has a number of good insights in
here, and contrary to what other reviewers say, there
are some smart insights here that are not found in CS
Lewis writings. CS is a genius, no bones about it, but
Kreef has written a better book on the subject than CS
has. |

| The Great Compromise |
Laurie, Greg |
"Have your cake and eat it too," "Find a way to have
it all," "A foot in church and a foot in the world."
These are just a few of the countless strong messages
flashed before Christians daily. We want to live
effective Christian lives—yet the lure of life on the
edge is still there. Temptation. Idolatry. Immorality.
Adultery. Our minds are repeatedly assaulted with
hundreds of ways to take a little off here, a little off
there...until biblical truth and values are completely
eroded. With each small step, each subtle compromise,
we're drawn futher from Christ and closer to the abyss
of spiritual failure. There is that last little
push--that one last compromise--The Great
Compromise...the one we can't pull out of. Is there
hope? Is there help? Greg Laurie says, "Yes!" In The
Great Compromise, he exposes Satan's favorite ploys to
pull Christians away from their faith and explains how
each of us can take measures to avoid common pitfalls.
This encouraging message for today also offers a way
back for those who have found themselvs ensnared. "once
you understand how compromise works," says the author,
"it will change your spiritual life."

| The Practice of the Presence of God |
Lawrence, Brother |
Millions have learned to live in the presence of God
through this simple book written by a humble monastery
cook. Published first in French in 1692, The Practice of
the Presence of God is a classic for everyone who has a
heart that is hungry for more of God—whose "soul thirsts
for God, for the living God." Amid his pots and pans,
the author, Brother Lawrence, became so noted for his
serenity and joy while he worked at the most menial
kitchen tasks, that cardinals and theologians came to
see him to learn his secret—even the pope of his day is
said to have visited him. |
| Applause of Heaven |
Lucado, Max |
It is what you always dreamed but never expected.
It's having God as your dad, your biggest fan, and your
best friend. It is having the King of Kings in your
cheering section. It is hearing the applause of heaven.
Max Lucado believes that the Beatitudes provide what we
need to discover the the joy of God. Much more than a
how-to book on happiness. The Applause of Heaven is an
encounter with the Source of Joy.
|
| In the Eye of the Storm |
Lucado, Max |
Come face-to-face with Jesus when He experienced
more stress than any other day of his life aside from
his crucifixion. Before the morning became evening, he
has reason to weep, run, shout, curse, praise, and
doubt. If you know what it means to be caught in life's
storms…if you've ever ridden the roller coaster of
sorrow and celebration…if you've ever wondered if God in
heaven can relate to you on earth, then this book will
encourage and inspire you.
|
| He Still Moves Stones |
Lucado, Max |
As one who had a 'wounded soul,' I cannot tell you
how much this book changed and turned around my life. I
received it as a gift many years ago and I have now
bought my 4th copy of the book, as the ones I have
loaned out never 'come home', which speaks of how
powerfully this book also speaks to others. In this
book, Max tells of characters of the Bible as if they
are actually people you know in real life; perhaps an
aunt or uncle, sister or brother, friend or neighbor.
His narrative is so possitive that no one can read it
and not be affected. I consider it a must for any
library!.

| Found: God's Will |
MacArthur, John |
You may want to jump and shout when you read the
sixth principle for knowing when you have found God's
will. The sixth principle is "Do whatever you want" as
long as the first five principles are operating in your
life. Read about all six principles to better understand
what the psalmist means when he urges, "Delight thyself
also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of
thine heart"(Psalm 37:4). |
| The God Who Loves |
MacArthur, John |
|
| Hard to Believe |
MacArthur, John |
Hard to Believe (2003) is John MacArthur's latest
book defining the parameters of the gospel and what it
means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. It is in many
ways a restatement of what some people called the
"lordship salvation" controversy of the late '80s and
earlyto-mid '90s; it covers essentially the same ground
as MacArthur's The Gospel According to Jesus (1988;
revised and expanded, 1994) and The Gospel According to
the Apostles (1993). Hard to Believe is in many ways a
clearer, simpler exposition of Scripture passages
speaking to the same points covered in those books, and
is arguably more accessible to a wider audience than the
previous works. |
| The Book on Leadership |
MacArthur, John |
John MacArthur continues his impressive string of
recent books with "The Book on Leadership." Using the
apostle Paul as his subject, MacArthur demonstrates from
Scripture how true Christians who are in leadership
positions should behave. Excellent!
|
| The Quest for Character |
MacArthur, John |
Don't let the size of the book fool you. Though it
is small it packs a punch. Many people are looking for
step by step instructions when reading books on how to
develope themselves. This book is not step by step. John
MacArthur starts with the Beatitudes and works his way
through the Fruit of the Spirit and so on. It will up to
the reader and the Holy Spirit to get to new levels of
maturity.
|
| The Heart of the Bible |
MacArthur, John |
This is truely a great collection of the best verses
of the Bible. Pastor John carefully interprets and
explains the verses as if you are sitting in a personal
study session with him and offers sound teaching and
proper exegesis. You will find yourself wanting to read
this again when you are done. It is great for
morning/evening devotion either with your family or for
yourself. Crystal clear teaching and a book you'll want
to read again and again. A must read for any serious
Protestant believer. |

| Habitation of Dragons |
Miller, Keith |
Although many authors make poor readers of their own
material, this audiotape is a definite exception to the
rule. In these very personal and transparent vignettes,
Keith Miller reveals the struggles and subtle
temptations that beset the "successful" Christian author
and lecturer. His honest appraisal of his own failings
prompts a more thorough soul-searching of our own
"dragons". Frequently, while listening to him describe
his struggles with insecurities, anxiety, escapism,
pride, self-doubt and ordinary family challenges, I
recognized the similarities in my reactions to
circumstances. These are tapes you will want to
savor...and then return to somewhere down your spiritual
walk, to check on your progress. By participating in the
heart-felt prayers at the end of each story, it kept the
tone positive and hopeful.

| Absolute Surrender |
Murray, Andrew |
In Murray’s classic devotional style, he shows the
way to new freedom and power, beginning with the truth
that "carnal Christianity" is not true Christianity. He
clearly and convincingly presents the "one decisive
step" that believers can take to move from the old life
to the new life. Murray begins with the biblical command
to be filled with the Spirit and ends with the assurance
that "ye are the branches" and completely dependent on
the Vine for life.
|
| Abide in Christ |
Murray, Andrew |
Amazing book. It amplifies the call to eternal
peace, the "rest for our souls" we all desire. His style
is used to make one hear the Scripture and fall at the
feet of God for rest. The problem with the text from the
first few days is it could lean, out of context, to
perfectionism.

| Desiring God |
Piper, John |
Scripture reveals that the great business of life is
to glorify God by enjoying Him forever. In this
paradigm-shattering classic, newly revised and expanded,
John Piper reveals that the debate between duty and
delight doesn't truly exist: Delight is our duty.
Readers will embark on a dramatically different and
joyful experience of their faith
|
| The Passion of Jesus Christ |
Piper, John |
Denying that Christ suffered and died is like
denying the Holocaust. For some it is simply too
horrific to affirm. Others suspect it is an elaborate
religious conspiracy to coerce sympathy. Those who deny
either event live in a historical dreamworld. Jesus
suffered unspeakably and died.
The Passion of Jesus Christ shows that the gore of
Christ's suffering is turned to glory by the enormity
and diversity of what his death achieved. To do this,
John Piper uncovers fifty accomplishments of Christ's
suffering. He shuns embellishment and shows from the
Bible key evidence for each outcome of Christ's death.
When it is all said and done, the most crucial question
is: Why? Why did Christ suffer and die? The answer has
everything to do with you.
|
| The Pleasures of God |
Piper, John |
Beginning where the foundational truth of Desiring
God left off, that "God is most glorified in us when we
are most satisfied in Him," this expanded rerelease of
another classic by John Piper will further explore a
life-changing essential -- "We will be most satisfied in
God when we know why God himself is most satisfied in
God." Fully understanding the joy of God will draw the
reader into an encounter with His overflowing,
self-replenishing, all-encompassing grace -- the source
of living water that all Christians desire to drink. The
Pleasures of God will again put God at the center of
Creation and leave the reader very satisfied in Him. |
| God is the Gospel |
Piper, John |
This book is a cry from the heart of John Piper. He
is pleading that God himself, as revealed in Christ’s
death and resurrection, is the ultimate and greatest
gift of the gospel. |

| Stepping Heavenward |
Prentiss,Elizabeth |
How dreadfully old I am getting! Sixteen!" So begins
Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss, the
journal-like account of a nineteenth century girl who
learns, on the path to womanhood, that true happiness
can be found in giving oneself for others. "This book is
a treasure of both Godly and womanly wisdom told with
disarming candor and humility, yet revealing a deep
heart's desire to know God," says noted Christian
speaker Elisabeth Elliot. "I do not hesitate to
recommend it to men, who need to understand the wives
they live with, and to any woman who wants to walk with
God.

| Misery of Job & Mercy of God |
Puper, John |
In our pleasure-hungry culture, suffering is shunned
and avoided at all costs, to our harm. I know Ric
Ergenbright and he said many publishers would not touch
this book because, poetry does not sell and books about
suffering do not sell. But, Crossways saw the need and
published it because it needed to be. Piper does a
masterful job of capturing the message of the Book of
Job. His reading of the book on the included CD is worth
the price alone. Ric's photos are quality and fit with
the text.

| How to be a Christian Without Being Religious |
Ridenour, Fritz |
What this product is about, and the needs it will
meet Since the days of the Early Church, Christians have
struggled to find a way to be 'good'--to please God by
their own efforts. They end up carrying a burden God
never intended them to bear. And what's more, their
brand of Christianity ends up looking like any other
religion of the world--bound by joyless rules and
rituals. Fritz Ridenour's study of the book of Romans
provides an antidote to the pharisaical spirit and shows
that Christianity is not a religion but a relationship.
It is not man reaching up, it is God reaching down.
Every Christian can enjoy his or her birthright when
they realize who they are in Christ. The result is a
life full of hope, joy, power and potential.

Seume, Richard, H. |

| Forgive and Forgive |
Smedes, Lewis B. |
I've struggled with some very painful issues in my
life, and read several other books on forgiveness, but
they left me feeling like I could never do what they
suggested, and did nothing to help me to heal from the
painful things that others have done to me. With this
book I found that many of the things I'd already gone
through were a part of forgiveness, and made forgiving
someone within my grasp. I learned that it wasn't
necessary to forget about the painful experiences in
order to forgive, or to condone the action of the
perpetrator in order to be able to forgive them. I
didn't need to excuse their behavior by putting myself
in their shoes to try to understand why their behavior
had an excuse. I borrowed this book from a friend, but
after reading it, I decided it was too good of a book to
not have a copy of my own.

Using Scripture to unmask Satan and reveal his
battle plans for defeating Christians, author Ray
Stedman shows clearly how Satan daily attacks us.
Stedman also offers assurance that, in the strong arms
and with the mighty armor of Christ, we can become more
than conquerors. Knowing that the battle is the Lord's,
Christians can take their places in history's most
amazing war story--the daily triumph of good over evil.

| Eternity |
Stowell, Joseph M<. |
I really got a lot from this book. Stowell explains
that in order to see life in its fullest meaning, the
believer needs to see all three worlds: the world around
us (earth); the world within (the Kingdom of Christ);
and the world to come (heaven). Focusing on the eternal
and prioritizing our worlds is key. Anyone searching to
understand why a Christian may often feel "out of sync"
should read this book.

| The Grace Awakening |
Swindoll, charles R. |
"Bound and shackled by legalists' lists of do's and
don'ts, intimidated and immobilized by others' demands
and expectations, far too many in God's family merely
exist in the tight radius of bondage, dictated by those
who have appointed themselves our judge and jury."-Chuck
Swindoll [from the Introduction]
The Grace Awakening calls all Christians to wake up and
reject living in such legalistic, performance-oriented
bondage. The God of the universe has given us an
amazing, revolutionary gift of grace and freedom. This
freedom and grace set us apart from every other
"religion" on the face of the earth.
In this best-selling classic, Charles Swindoll urges you
not to miss living a grace-filled life. Freedom and
joy-not lists and demands and duties-await all who
believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
With his characteristic style and gentle authority,
Swindoll disarms the counter-attack of all those who
would not preach grace-filled living and who would claim
that focusing on grace would fill our churches with
wild, undisciplined people with no godliness in
evidence. Yes, Swindoll says, teaching and preaching
grace is risky. Some may push the limits and misuse
their freedom. But grace is the message of the
gospel…the good news of salvation. As Christians, we
sing about God's amazing grace. We understand that we
are saved by grace. Let's learn to live by grace!

| Finding Favor with the King |
Tenney, Tommy |
Tenney takes readers to Esther's pre-Islamic Persia
to uncover the secrets that helped her win the heart and
gain the ear of the king and save her people from
destruction. A Jewish girl of no royal heritage was
chosen to become the Queen of Persia. Was it her beauty
alone, or did she know an important and mysterious
truth? Tenney challenges his readers to move beyond
formal petitions or even "storming the gates of heaven"
to that intimate embrace of worship where the bride’s
petitions move the King’s heart and where kingdoms,
people, and situations begin to shift like pawns on a
divine chessboard.

I teach a Men's ministry and I plan to use this book as

the world expects, but what God expects. It's that good.

| The Pursuit of God |
Tozer, Q. W. |
Great Communicator who knew God, July 1, 2006
Reviewer: Cathy Liz (Florida) - See all my reviews
I would say that this is one of my favorite books. Tozer
communicates in a way that makes you think. He knows how
to make you get you thinking about your 'religious' ways
and pursue the living God. This man can communicate in a
way that is not over your head, but yet takes you deep.
If you haven't read this book and would like to have a
more intimate relationship with Him, this book is a very
good place to start as it will direct you to the God of
the Word.

| Instruments in the Redeemer's Hands |
Tripp, P.D. |
Tripp's book is a refreshingly biblical perspective
on how believers are called to minister to one another.
It reminds us that helping others work through their
problems is something that we are all to do and that
most problems can be tackled by serious minded believers
using God's Word and relying on the Holy Spirit. Tripp
helps us put our problems in the bigger picture of our
relationship with God and to work towards lasting
change. This book is very readable, has many helpful
illustrations and is thoroughly biblical. It is worth
reading over and over! |
| Uncommon Graces |
Vawter, John |
Vawter, pastor of Bethany Community Church (Tempe,
Ariz.), claims that we live in a graceless world. He
divides his book into two parts. In part one, he
discusses the uncommon graces he believes today's world
needs: gentleness, attentiveness, loyalty, candor,
mercy, kindness and repentance. Vawter uses personal
anecdotes and examples from Scripture to illustrate the
power of these uncommon graces. For instance, he
describes how his father, whose speech and motor skills
had been severely affected by a brain tumor, reached out
in a simple gesture of loyalty to a longtime community
friend. In part two, he asserts that we can nurture
uncommon graces by building community and living
according to the Golden Rule. Vawter believes that the
hostility and violence he sees characterizing our world
can be changed simply by enacting the virtues of respect
and graciousness.

| Worship is a Verb |
Webber, Robert E. |
Worship. It isn't an entertaining showcase for a
talented soprano or a lecture on textual criticism or a
pleasant weekly reunion of friends and family. Instead,
true worship is a joyous celebration of the life, death,
and resurrection of Jesus Christ. And as we actively
turn our hearts toward God in earnest praise of God's
great works, God in turn speaks to us and blesses us
with a healing and renewing touch.
In this life-changing and dynamic book, Robert Webber
declares that worship is not "something done to us or
for us, but by us." It is the most exhaustive
demonstration of our faith and the most intimate form of
relationship we can have with our Savior. Complete with
a guide for group of personal study, Worship Is a Verb
will show you how to leave the dull confines of the pew
and enter the courts of the Living God.

| 10 Questions to Diagnose your Spiritual Health |
Whitney, Donald S. |
Donald Whitney asks ten questions that examine and
probe the Christian like a medical doctor would his
patient to bring about a healthy result. This is a solid
read and is not based upon a modern spiritualized
"self-help" measure. Each question is biblically based
and presents a real challenge to the sick as well as
healthy Christian. Whitney states, "Nothing in the world
is more important than an eternal, life-giving knowledge
of God, through Jesus, who is the only way to the
Father. I urge you not to take for granted the existence
of such relationship between yourself and God. The Bible
implores you to 'make you call and election sure.'"
Anyone wishing to take a true examination of their
spiritual health will do well to read and re-read this
book with the Bible in hand. But be ready to discover
you may not be as healthy as you think you are in your
spiritual health. The Christian looking to become
healthy in their relationship with Christ will want read
this book. |
| The Divine Conspiracy |
Willard, Dallar |
Dallas Willard, an acclaimed theologian and
professor of philosophy at the University of Southern
California, fulfills the longing of many Christians who
want to live as true disciples of Christ rather than
distant dabblers. Likewise, he scoffs at consumer
Christians who are simply banking on admittance to
heaven as their payoff for attending church. Or worse
still, those who use Christianity to advance their
political agendas rather than their spiritual ones. But
this is not a scolding book. Rather, Willard devotes his
efforts to discussing specific and inspiring ways to
develop a discipleship to Jesus--not as an act of
sacrifice or even one of spiritual luxury--instead, as
everyday people committed to the teachings of Christ.
"The really good news for Christians is that Jesus is
now taking students in the master class of life," writes
Willard. "So the message of and about him is
specifically a gospel for our life now, not just for
dying. It is about living now as his apprentices in
kingdom living, not just as consumers of his merits."

| Disappointment With God |
Yancey, Philip |
Is God unfair? Is he silent? Is he hidden? In this
profoundly personal book, these questions are answered
with clarity, richness, and biblical certainty. Philip
Yancey points to the odd disparity between our concept
of God and the realities of life. Disappointment with
God takes us beyond the things that make for
disillusionment to a deeper faith, a certitude of God's
love, and a thirst to reach not just for what God gives,
but for who he is.
|
| the Jesus I Never Knew |
Yancey, Philip |
Philip Yancey reveals the real Jesus beyond the
stereotypes, revolutionizing the reader’s passion for
Christ, and offers a new and different perspective on
the life of Christ and his work—his teachings, his
miracles, his death and resurrection—and ultimately, who
he was and why he came. Relating the gospel events to
the world we live in today, The Jesus I Never Knew gives
a moving and refreshing portrait of the central figure
of history. Yancey looks at the radical words of this
itinerant Jewish carpenter and asks whether we are
taking him seriously enough.
|
| Where is God When it Hurts |
Yancey, Philip |
Many suffering people want to love God, but cannot
see past their tears, says Philip Yancey. They feel hurt
and betrayed. Sadly, the church often responds with more
confusion than comfort. This current edition of what is
perhaps Yancey's best-known book should speak to anyone
for whom life sometimes just doesn't make sense. And it
should help equip anyone who wants to reach out to
someone in pain but just doesn't know what to say. - |
