SUMMARY |
| Power Through Prayer |
bounds, E. M. |
There are many good resources on the subject of
prayer; however, once you've understood the basics, I've
discovered the greatest way to learn to pray is simply
to pray. "Power Through Prayer" is packed with
inspiration and motivation to get you started and to
keep you praying. Bounds' primary target is the minister
of the Gospel. His aim is sure and his words will
certainly penetrate any sincere but prayerless
preacher's heart. E.M. Bounds was a tireless man of
prayer, whose words ring with authenticity, passion, and
conviction. I have the entire series of Bounds' eight
short books on the subject of prayer. "Power Through
Prayer" is by far my favorite and a book I regularly go
back to when my own prayer life is losing its fire. For
a dose of prayer motivation, inspiration, and passion
there is no better book than this classic 128-page work,
"Power Through Prayer."

| Purpose in Prayer |
Bounds, E. M. |
This book gave me more insight to the meaning of
prayer. Prayer is based on faith - the desire, belief
and expectancy. The author tell us about the energy of
prayer, how and why we must be persistent in prayer, and
the results that are possible due to prayer. You can
create you own results (miracles) by praying (if you
know how and why).
Even if you don't take time to read this book, at least
learn to how / when to pray and learn what to expect.
God wants to be our friend. He ask us to go to our
secret place (inside) and talk with him. Who knows? You
might see the miracles (results) in your life if you
pray nonstop, giving thanks and praise and "asking (the
right way) so you can receive (thy will be done)".

| Becoming a Woman of Prayer |

| Hearing God |
Dallas, Willard |
This is not a book on figuring out the will of God,
though knowing and doing what God requires is discussed
as an essential aspect of having a relationship with
Him. This is not a book on prayer, though prayer is
discussed as the essential medium for a personal
relationship with God. It is about living with God as a
shaping force in our lives. The genius of this book is
found in that it describes a relationship with God. It
tells us what life in relation with God looks like.
Willard suggests that it is our difficulty in hearing
the voice of God (the word of God) that hinders our
relationship with Him. The book answers the question of
whether or not we actually can hear the voice of God,
how God speaks to us, how we can know it is really God,
and how we are to respond when God speaks.
Having a conversational relationship with God is
grounded first and foremost in faith. We must trust in
the One who holds the future, who reveals His will, and
who wants to take up residence in our hearts. We must
believe that God wants all of this for us. A
conversational relationship with God means that we
cultivate a heart that is able to hear God speak. We are
able to know and sense God's presence with us. We are
aware of God's presence in our circumstances, we are
able to hear the Still Small Voice of the Spirit, and we
are able to read the Bible in such a way that it shapes
the manner in which we live. Like any relationship or
any form of communication, this takes time, maturity,
practice, and skills. Willard provides insight into all
these areas.
There are no quick roads to blessing in this book.
Willard provides no shortcuts because God offers none.
He merely asks us, "Do you trust God enough to care
about what He says, listen for what He says, and then
live according to what He tells you?" May it be so.

| Operation World |
Johnstone, Patrick |
I love how this prayer book is set up. Each calendar
day of the year, you pray for the physical and spiritual
needs of each country. The countries are listed in
alphavetical order. Some of the larger countries get
more than one day allocated to them for prayer because
of the greater number of people and needs. The USA gets
5 days in November and Indonesia gets 7 days in June,
for example.
The author has done a fantastic job at researching what
the needs are in each country, and it makes prayer for
the nations a more personalized experience. Before this
book came out, I would just say, "God, bless America.
Bless China." Well, now with this book, I can pray more
precisely. I am grateful to Patrick Johnstone for
putting together a wonderfully helpful guide for praying
for the world.

| The Screwtape Letters |
Lewis, C. S. |
Who among us has never wondered if there might not
really be a tempter sitting on our shoulders or dogging
our steps? C.S. Lewis dispels all doubts. In The
Screwtape Letters, one of his bestselling works, we are
made privy to the instructional correspondence between a
senior demon, Screwtape, and his wannabe diabolical
nephew Wormwood. As mentor, Screwtape coaches Wormwood
in the finer points, tempting his "patient" away from
God. |

Prayer is the bridge that allows pastors and lay

Author John Maxwell knows this to be true because a
prayer-partner ministry changed his church and empowered
his ministry. Writing in a warm, anecdotal style with
lots of practical hands-on help, Maxwell describes how
this method of support has been proven time and again in
churches of all sizes. Empower your laity for ministry
involvement with this complete plan for creating a
prayer-partner program in your church.

| The Language of the Heart |
Mills, Bill |
Many inside and outside Alcoholics Anonymous are
concerned with the cult appearance presented by AA
groups and members: Those who believe that the Big Book
and the 12 and 12 are direct inspirations from a
everwatchful Higher Power. Those of us who have been
blessed with ten or more years of sobriety and serenity
know that the AA founders were truly mortal, and
stumbled their way to a vital way of preserving
abstinence despite organizational imperitives. This book
gives the common sense, and humble approach that Bill
Wilson used to give guidance to the 12 Step Approach. It
is a welcome antidote to those Bleeding Deacons within
and without AA who seek to fossilize a vibrant, growing,
and everchanging force with ever increasing rigid
restrictions and rules concerning AA membership. This
volume ranks with Not-God, Secret History of
Alchoholism, Slaying the Dragon, and Natural History of
Alcoholism as must-haves for those of us who find AA a
part of our daily lives, and not all of our lives. It is
definitely terra incognita for those who have chosen AA
as their only life, and for those who abjure Rule 62:
"Don't take yourself too seriously!"

| Everyday Guide to Prayer |
Murray, Andrew |
|
| With Christ in the School of Prayer |
Murray, Andrew |
"If there is one thing I think the Church needs to
learn," Andrew Murray writes, "it is that God means
prayer to have an answer, and that it hath not entered
into the heart of man to conceive what God will do for
His child who gives himself to believe that his prayer
will be heard." This classic book calls on believers to
approach prayer not as a drudgery or a way to win favor
with God, but as a means of communing with the
Creator-and seeing their own lives changed |
| Let Us Pray |
Nee, Watchman |
I give this book a very high rating due to the fact
that Watchmen Nee provides us with so much useful
information to help us in our daily walk with Christ.
'Let Us Pray' makes the basics of prayer available to us
so that we may come to God with effective and fervent
prayer. Watchman Nee expresses the importance of knowing
what we Christians have to deal with daily so we may
conquer the opposition and allow Gods will to prevail on
earth. This book is essential for anyone who has just
accepted Christ ; it is also rewarding to anyone who
wishes to sharpen their discernment in the area of
prayer.

| Prayers of a God Chaser |
Tenney, tommy |
I really enjoyed this book. I just finished it, and
I found it to be very informative and easy to read. I
really like Tommy Tenny's style. He breaks prayer down
into about ten different types, which I find to be very
true, and it really helps to get things in perspective.
Especially good are his chapters on "prayers of
emptying" and "prayers of commitment." They confirmed
things I have known, and revealed new things to me. I
highly recommend this book.
