| Stop Dating The Church |
Harris, Joshua |
Putting in their hour or two on the weekend, many
Christians take the rest of the week off, neglecting the
church and her needs. It's not a serious relationship.
Some shop around, looking for a church that suits their
lifestyle. It's dating, with no assurances, no
obligations. Bestselling author Joshua Harris calls
Christians to stop playing the field and commit, just as
Christ is committed to us, His bride. In his new book,
Harris explores the ramifications of Ephesians 5:25-32,
which proclaims the intensity and the breadth of Jesus
Christ's love for His church. God has designed us to
build our lives around a local church; we cannot be
indifferent or uninvolved. Rather, we must be in love
with and committed to God's plan and purpose through the
church. Are you dating the church, or are you committed?

| The teenagers Book of Manners - PLEASE |
Hartley, Fred |
This book is great. I used it to teach a manners
course for 7th and 8th graders along with their Bible
class. I will use it again this semester and hope to
have the book available for each student next year. The
students loved the book. I used my own
transparencies to teach from the book. They had fun and
always wanted to know on Thursday or Friday if we would
start with manners. Those 2 days were manners days. The
book was interesting to them and I used my own thoughts
and teaching approach to reach the students. They
practiced what they learned from introductions, telephone
manners, table, dating, car, classroom and probably the
most fun and importance to them was the emphasis I put
into Personal Manners and Personal Values.
I had two hairdressers come in to talk about personal
care. Two students were picked by a drawing for a
makeover. Also, another student went to a very formal
dinner and told his mother he knew from "manners class"
exactly what to do with the utensils on the table. Fred
Hartley is to be commended for writing such a humorous
approach to manners for teens. It absolutely fit exactly
what I was looking for when I found it. It is also based
on Scripture which makes it all the more important to me
and to reach students that I teach.

| The Light and the Glory For Children |
Marshall, Peter & Manuel Davis |
How did Columbus, Squanto, John Winthrop, George
Whitefield, and George Washington help make America a
special nation? Does American democracy owe its start to
the Pilgrims who settled at Plymouth? What happened as
the generations that followed the Puritans moved west
and settled new lands? |
| Why Wait? |
McDowell, Josh |
I read Why Wait? as a teen and it really helped me
to see the reasons why teens have sex, reasons to wait
and what was likely to happen to you down the road if
you didn't wait until marriage. The thing I liked most
about this book is that is shows you why young people
are having sex. Many books will just talk about why to
have sex or why you shouldn't. This book really explores
the issue and gives a lot of good facts to back up the
different points that are made in the book. Well worth
taking the time to read no matter how old you are or
what your feelings are on the subject.

| How To - Get Into The bible |
Miller, Stephen M |
In today's media-driven culture, how do you
introduce the Bible to people who are used to movies,
comic books, and USA Today? You give them How to Get
Into the Bible, a fast-paced, action-packed look at the
main characters, events, and meanings of the Old and New
Testament.
Using with the reader-friendly Contemporary English
Version, this book makes it even easier for adults who
are unfamiliar with the Bible to get into the
Scriptures.

| Men of Science - Men of God |
Morris, Henry M |
This is a great book for those interested in
scientists who believed in God. While no part of this
book is in depth it is a good starting point for
children doing research or who want more of a
compilation of scientists and their contributions.
Overall I think this book is a very effective book for
the younger generation or for someone who just wants to
read some quick facts about Christian scientists.

| the Wounded Spirit |
Peretti, Frank |
The man who has thrilled Christian readers with
novels such as This Present Darkness and The Visitation
here describes the childhood trauma that first
introduced him to the dark side. Peretti was born with
cystic hygroma, which at birth manifested itself as a
small lump on his neck. In two months, the lump was
baseball-size, and Peretti was enduring the first of
seven early surgeries. During childhood, his tongue was
so swollen that it lolled out of his mouth, preventing
normal speech development. Classmates were repulsed by
his tongue and by the bloody trickle constantly
dribbling from his mouth. They tormented him about his
grotesque appearance, small size and inability to form
words normally. Peretti's response was to retreat to his
room, where he wrote stories and played with monsters
like toy Frankensteins and hunchbacks, who he felt were
also misunderstood and abused. Peretti writes here that
he survived this difficult period because of the
unwavering love and acceptance of his family, and
because he had deep faith in the equality of all people
in Christ. He expresses grave concern about other
"wounded spirits," particularly young people who may
eventually snap after withstanding years of bullying by
their peers. The book is full of painful stories, but
also memorable moments of hope, as Peretti recounts
instances when a peer or a teacher stood up for him.
This remarkable memoir will inspire readers to undertake
similar acts of courageous compassion. (Nov.)

| No More victims |
Peretti, Frank |
It happens every day. People are deeply wounded by
the words and actions of those around them. And it
affects them for the rest of their lives. We've all been
there - we've all been wounded and we've all wounded
others. But it's time to become "wounded healers,"
loving and protecting the people around us. The Wounded
Spirit has become more than a book. The message has
connected with thousands and has become a national
movement. This 64-page call to action, entitled No More
Victims, is designed as a giveaway to students for them
to join in the fight against bullying.

| Don't Date Naked |
Smalley, Michael & Amy |
Young people are constantly being bombarded with the
wrong ideas and expectations when it comes to dating.
The media has done its best to equate dating with
sleeping together--and our kids are at risk. Using
personal stories, humor, and straight talk, Michael and
Amy Smalley challenge young adults to understand and
grasp godly principles of honor and purity. Their
experiences and interaction with today's youth give them
incredible insights into how young people think and why
they do what they do. This new book will speak to
today's young adults where they're at and help them deal
with dating and all it means.

| Almighty Over All |
Sproul, J. C |
"Theologian R. C. Sproul Jr. is well equipped to
write about the great issues. These he faces squarely
with sure-footed confidence in a truly scriptural
fashion. You may not always like what he says (though
youll like the way he says it) but you certainly will be
forced to think. And I challenge you to try to refute
his teaching! A book for those who are tired of reading
superficial material."

| Jesus Freaks |
voice of martyrs |
Jesus Freaks by dc Talk and The Voice of the
Martyrs, is a companion volume to dc Talk's album of the
same name. It is a book for teenagers about martyrdom,
containing dozens of profiles of figures ranging from
Stephen, whose martyrdom is described in the Book of
Acts, to "Anila and Perveen," two teenage Pakistani
girls and Christian believers. In 1997, Perveen was
killed for running away in order to avoid marrying a
Muslim man; Anila was imprisoned for helping her friend
escape. In an introduction to the book, Michael Tait
explains its purpose: "In a world built on free will
instead of God's will, we must be the Freaks. While we
may not be called to martyr our lives, we must martyr
our way of life. We must put our selfish ways to death
and march to a different beat. Then the world will see
Jesus." The book's design is hip and easy to read, and
its summary of Christian persecutions that continue
today is useful--and frightening.
